Professional Counseling Background and Orientation
I have been providing supervision for clinicians for over 8 years and have developed a deep wealth of knowledge of using the ethical codes and laws to help guide consultation. From my experience as an adjunct professor in a Master's of Counseling program, I continue to stay up to date on the latest developments in theories and techniques, as well as a focus on meeting different learning tyles.
My work as a counselor has been through work in private practice for 5 years. Prior to that I spent 10 years working in variety of settings with a diverse client population, these include working in community mental health, in long term residential treatment, college counseling center, and with Veterans in both residential treatment and outpatient services. My experience also includes 15 years working in wilderness education which has had a major role in my theoretical orientation. My theoretical model is holistic and focused in Recovery Model Orientation. I use an eclectic approach that combines many different modalities including, but not limited to; strength based, person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy, reality based, nature based, motivational interviewing, developmental focused, grief work, co-occurring, disorders, and experiential techniques.
